United States Missions
Sonny & Joanne Theobald
Joanne and Sonny Theobald have been Christians all their married life. They have been married for 40 years, are parents of four grown children, and enjoy their 7 grandchildren.
Sonny spent 20 years in the United States Air Force as a heavy duty truck mechanic and then served in satellite communications. After retiring from the Air Force, he went on to work in the telecommunications field for another 10 years. In addition to working full time, Sonny owned his own business installing LED lights as accessories on motorcycles. He stayed busy doing the installation business until he retired at age 55. He has always felt called to serve others.
Joanne, while serving as a spouse and an active duty member, became an LPN. She then went back to school and graduated as an RN. She retired from nursing after serving the needs of people for 25 years. Joanne, too, has always felt a calling by God to serve others.
Sonny & Joanne have been involved in the churches they attended and served on several teams together. They were on the hospitality team, work crews and Sunday school leaders and teachers. Together they led small groups and did one-on-one discipleship. Joanne was in choirs and on worship teams. Sonny was a mission board leader and member. Combined, they have been on six mission trips. Sonny led one of them. In November 2011, Sonny was ordained at Calvary Chapel of Tampa. For the last 2 years, Sonny and Joanne have been volunteering their time, talents and resources working at Camp Gilead in Florida. They have been involved in almost every phase of keeping a camp running. Joanne has been busy doing work in the kitchen, house cleaning, and office duties. She also helped with Bible clubs and even provided nursing care as needed. Sonny has been the camp’s handyman repairing anything broken----from repairing and even rebuilding golf carts. He has done various electrical, plumbing and roofing jobs. Sonny has also used his time to teach young men not only all the above mentioned jobs but also encouraging them to have a deeper walk with God.
Now, Sonny and Joanne are taking their service on the road in their RV. They describe their calling as being "missionaries to missionaries." They visit hard-working Christian servants at Christian campgrounds, churches and ministries and come alongside those in ministry by building them up and ministering to any needs, which then better enables them to do the work to which God has called them.
